Cycle Trails

There are 3 main Cycle Trails around Nant-yr-Arian, giving you a mountain biking experience second to none. The trails take you through forests, along open hills and around lakes. All trails are classed as difficult so please ensure you are suitably equiped and follow the Forest Cycle Code.

The Trails are:

The Pendam Trail -  
Distance: 9km
Climb: 220m
Time: 1-2 hours

The Summit Trail  
Distance: 16km
Climb: 310m
Time: 1.5-2.5 hours

The Syfydrin Trail -  
Distance: 35km
Climb: 670m
Time: 3-5 hours

At the start of the Trails there is a Notice Board which shows the trail routes, and maps are also available free from this point. Additionally, the maps are available at the Visitor Centre.

Bike Washing

There is a coin-operated Bike Wash, and Showers, at the Visitor Centre.

Please note, bike hire is not available from the Centre.

The Forest Cycle Code

  • Expect the unexpected. Keep your speed down.
  • Remember other vehicles use forest roads as well as you!
  • Give way to walkers and riders be friendly towards other forest users.
  • Hail a horse and avoid an
    accident!
  • Danger! Keep away from forest operations.
  • Danger! Do not pass any
    vehicle loading timber until you
    have been told to do so.
  • Footpaths are for Walkers only.
  • Cycle with care and you can come back again!

Personal Safety

  • Remember the route is in exposed, wild countryside.
  • Be prepared for all emergencies
  • Be prepared for harsh weather and low visibility, remember conditions can change rapidly in the hills
  • Ride within your ability
  • Always wear a helmet
  • Make sure your bike is in good mechanical order
  • Carry some sort of identification
  • It is safer riding with others
  • Sections of the Summit, Syfydrin and Pendam trails are rights of way open to walkers, horse riders and motor vehicles. Please watch out for them and politely let them know you are there.
