4th May

International Dawn Chorus Day

A walk around the Barcud trail. Listen to one of nature's most beautiful sounds. Then back to the visitor centre for tea or coffee. Make sure to set the alarm early. Booking required.

Time: 6am
Cost: £1 for refreshments (car parking fee applies)

11th May

Mountain Bike Demo Day

For 2008 Specialized and Giant have partnered with Singletrack, Lupine, Sram, SIS and Dirt Divas to give you more technical support and the guarantee of a safe and fun ride on Specialized and Giants demo bikes. You must be 18 or over to participate in the event and register in advance. The use of helmet is compulsory.

World Environment Day

We can all do our bit for the environment. Come and see how Forestry Commission Wales is doing its bit. Take home ideas so that we can all help reduce our impact on the planet.

The Red Kite Challenge

The Red Kite Challenge this year will again include the UK Short Course Trail Running Championships as well as the Welsh Master Trail Running Championships.

BNyA Biodiversity Dayy

Come and join us on our wildlife hunt to see how many species of animals we can find. We'll look under logs, in the grass and in the lake.

Time: 10am - 4pm

20th July

The Man Made landscape

A 5 mile guided walk led by Richard Smith from the Llywernog Silver-lead mine museum and caverns, exploring past and present influences which have shaped the hills, including geology, mining and forestry and agriculture. Bring packed lunch, stout footwear and waterproofs. Booking required.

Time: 11am
Cost: £2.50 - adults, and £1.50 - children (fully redeemable for admission to the mine)(car parking fee applies)

30th July - 27th

Junior Rangers

Join in our fun days every Wednesday. Every week we'll go out and be part of the natural world. Booking is required, as places are limited. Come dressed for the weather and wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty.

Time: 10am - 12pm
Cost: £2 per child 5+(all children must be accompanied by an adult) (car parking fee applies)

Ponterwyd and District Art Club Exhibition Art

An evocative exhibition of paintings by members of the Ponterwyd art club. You may be able to purchase an original.

11th October

Bird box Bash

With winter approaching, help our feathered friends find some shelter and prepare for starting a family next year. Take your nest box home or we can put them up in the woods here. Booking required.

Time: 11am - 3pm
Cost: £3 per nest box if taken home (All children must be accompanied by an adult) (car parking fee applies)

25th October

Broom Making

With Hallowe'en around join in to make the witches' transport of choice, the broomstick. Booking is required, as places are limited.

Time: 10.30am - 12.30pm & 2pm -4pm

31st October

Halloween

Brave a night in the woods with eerie sights and sounds, and ghostly goings on. Then come back to the visitor centre and indulge in some supernatural snacks. This is a ticketed event and early booking is essential. Wear warm outdoor clothing, bring a torch and even fancy dress if you like.

22nd November

Winter Tree ID

Would you know a larch from a pine or an oak from a rowan? What about when they have lost their leaves? Celebrate National Tree week and let the Ranger tell you something about the tress, their Welsh names, their place in folklore. Come dressed for the weather.

20th and 21st December

Christmas in the woods

Get into the Christmas spirit making natural decorations, Christmas stories and follow our self-guided walk to Santa's grotto. Come dressed for the weather.
